UPS Opens Two Healthcare Logistics Facilities In Puerto Rico and the Netherlands

UPS has opened two new healthcare logistics facilities in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Roermond, the Netherlands, reported sdcexec.com.

The two new facilities make a total of 25 dedicated healthcare facilities globally. The company, through this move, expands its presence in the healthcare logistics market for the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries.

The Roermond facility is located on the UPS Supply Chain Solutions European logistics campus in the province of Limburg. The multi-client distribution center measures 215,000 square feet. The facility is designed to meet growing customer demand for healthcare logistics in Europe.

The facility provides temperature-sensitive storage, healthcare-compliant inventory management and quality assurance services with a direct connection to UPS's pan-European and global freight and express package transportation network.

The Puerto Rico facility, located in San Juan Sur Industrial Park, is a 150,000-square-foot, FDA-regulated facility housing validated healthcare operation structure to reach the increasing supply chain needs of pharmaceutical, medical device and biotech companies.

The new facility is expected to serve as a point of origin and destination for the Americas region, including the US, Central and South America and the Caribbean. It would provide a bolstered trade lane for packages and materials destined for the European Union and Asia, reported the source.

Bill Hook, vice president of global strategy for healthcare logistics of UPS, said: "Over the past 10 years, UPS has made significant investments in our healthcare network, technologies and specialty offerings to serve the needs of our pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device customers," quoted sdcexec.com.

UPS Healthcare Logistics provides distribution, transportation and special services for the healthcare industry.
